In your schools. The Academy is a product of a partnership between the local Johnson Controls office and your school district. It is a proven way to provide curriculum-enhancing programs that combine the study of science, energy, social studies, and math with real-world experience.

The Academy is a joint effort between Johnson Controls, Inc., a worldwide Fortune 500 company with vast building controls and management capabilities, and a leader in providing solutions for improving the learning environment, and the National Energy Foundation, a non-profit organization devoted to the development of instructional materials and the implementation of innovative teacher training and student programs.

All Academy programs are designed for use throughout the school year and include lesson plans, classroom materials, posters, built-in student and teacher recognition, incentives, and more.


The Academy of Energy Education also offers participating teachers one or two semester hours of graduate credit that counts toward an advanced degree, recertification, maintaining licensing, and salary increases. This is administered by Utah State University, located in Logan, Utah.


The Academy of Energy Education combines the study of science, energy, and math with real-world, hands-on experiences. The Academy offers a wide range of courses which can be used in schools to enhance and enrich the curriculum. To get a flavor of what the Academy consists of, the following outline may be helpful.

 

Energy Fun (K-3) - Allows students to have fun while learning about energy.

Energy Fundamentals (4-6) - Teaches older students important fundamental energy concepts.

Energy Action Patrol (5-7) - Encourages students to apply energy efficiency concepts in their homes, school, and communities.

Energy Action Teams (6-9) - Lets young adults work in groups and apply energy concepts in preparing a school energy efficiency policy.

Energy Action Technology (9-12) - Focuses on energy technology and incorporates school-to-work and high school-to-college transition programs.

  • Career Exploration (12) - Arranges for students to spend 40 hours at a Johnson Controls Branch learning about career possibilities.

  • Externships (College undergraduates) - Provides students with 100 hours of career-related work experience a a Johnson Controls Branch while obtaining college academic credit.
